It will be Toray's first own PPS composite material production line in India. The goal is to achieve large-scale mass production as soon as possible. It is understood that Toray's existing PPS production capacity is 33,600 tons/year, ranking first in the world. After the expansion in India is completed, the PPS production capacity will reach 36,600 tons/year. Toray stated that this expansion in India is part of the "Strengthening Local Production Capacity and Supply Chain Resilience" project in Toray's long-term business plan "TORAY Challenges 2035" and is also a core element of its expansion of resin business in India, aiming to further consolidate its position as the world's largest PPS resin manufacturer. In addition, Toray will also establish an integrated in-house production system for the production of PPS resin compounds in India to supplement its existing nylon and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin compound production business and strengthen the company's strength in the field of engineering plastics. These products are widely used in automotive electrical and engine parts. To further strengthen its support system, Toray plans to open a new office in Pune, Maharashtra in July 2026 to expand its production, sales and technical support scale in India. Toray said India's strong economic outlook - with annual GDP growth expected to be around 7% - was driving demand for luxury goods and high value-added goods such as cars and home appliances. As a result, demand for locally produced resin materials, including PPS, is surging and manufacturers are reducing their dependence on imported materials. In terms of PPS, on February 8, 2026, Toray developed a new high-performance flexible PPS resin that is both flame retardant and high temperature resistant, and has begun to provide paid samples to customers since January 2026 for applications such as battery peripheral components and semiconductor manufacturing equipment components. This new material is the world's first PPS resin that is flexible, flame retardant and high temperature resistant. It is PFAS-free and costs less than fluororesin.
