During the recent review for the renewal of the certification for pressure vessel design in our company, the review experts believed that vessels holding explosive materials required 100% non-destructive testing. What is the basis for this? Are there any regulations in standards and norms regarding this?
It’s available on 150; the clause is that explosive materials don’t necessarily have to be 100% prohibited, right?
The large capacity regulations also do not specify explosive media separately

There are no specific regulations; rather, it is decided during the design phase whether to conduct full testing or only partial testing, based on the design parameters of the equipment handling explosive materials, the importance of the equipment, and the difficulty of manufacturing it.
It is not necessary; the tolerance specifications and 150 do not require 100% radiographic inspection separately. Our local special inspection agency also does not require 100% compliance. It mainly depends on the operating conditions; I mainly work with type 2 containers, and type 3 ones are used very rarely by me.
There is a difference between flammable and explosive, as well as highly hazardous and extremely hazardous.
If 100% non-destructive testing is required only for media that are explosive, no other codes stipulate that such testing must be carried out except for spherical tanks. Based on my experience, testing that is not required by the codes need not be performed. For devices with high parameters, the requirements can be appropriately increased.
