It was recently reported that Lanzhou Lanshi Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd. won the bid for projects related to Inner Mongolia Zhuozheng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Inner Mongolia Zhuozheng”). These projects include an optimization of the production capacity from 1.2 million tons per year to 1 million tons per year for coal-to-methanol production; projects for the deep processing and comprehensive utilization of methanol and acetic acid to produce high-end chemicals and new materials; as well as four carbonylation reactors for an ethanol production facility with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year. The total value of these contracts is 136,998,400 yuan. The project is located in the Nalinhe Industrial Park of the Sulihe Economic Development Zone, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and is under EPC general contracting by Beiyou Engineering. Centered on the clean and efficient utilization of coal at different grades and qualities, the project will involve the construction of a coal pyrolysis facility with an annual capacity of 2 million tons, as well as a coal-to-methanol facility with an annual capacity of 1 million tons. Additionally, facilities for producing acetic acid, ethanol, polyglycolic acid, polyoxymethylene, and other products will be established, thereby yielding high-value products and new materials such as coal tar, LNG, methanol, acetic acid, ethanol, polyglycolic acid, and polyoxymethylene ; Using coal as raw material, it produces 500,000 tons per year of acetic acid, 600,000 tons per year of ethanol, 2 x 30,000 tons per year of polymethanol, 200,000 tons per year of PGA, and 50,000 tons per year of LNG. Among them, the 600,000 tons per year ethanol plant utilizes the patented syngas-to-ethanol (DMTE) technology jointly developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group. The project will be constructed in two phases and four stages, with an expected production capacity of 1.1–1.5 million tons by 2027, and a total capacity of 2.6–3.2 million tons of new material products by 2030. It produces 19 types of products, including methanol, acetic acid, vinyl acetate (VAC), ethanol, formaldehyde, polyoxymethylene (POM), polyglycolic acid (PGA), ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), dimethyl ether, methyl acetate, mixed alcohols, polyglycolic acid oligomers, sulfur, coal tar, upgraded coal, liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, and special diesel. Through subsequent processes such as chain extension, chain supplementation, chain stabilization, and chain strengthening, more than 30 types of products can be manufactured, thereby enabling the development of coal chemical projects in a direction characterized by higher quality, greater diversity, and lower carbon emissions.
On October 12, 2023, the 4 carbonylation reactors and 1 methyl acetate hydrogenation reactor for Shandong Hengxin New Energy’s 500,000 tons per year ethanol production project, which were manufactured by Qingdao Lanshi Company, were successfully completed and shipped. This project involves the core equipment for an ethanol production facility, which is another project undertaken by Lanshi Heavy Equipment Company following its successful development of the carbonylation reactor and hydrogenation reactor for Anhui Carbonxin Technology’s 600,000 tons per year ethanol production plant – the world’s largest of its kind. The maximum diameter of these reactors is 5.4 meters, with each one weighing 512 tons. Based on the characteristics of its products, Qingdao Lanshi Company continuously optimizes the reactor processes and procedures, thereby effectively improving the stability of the products and their reaction efficiency.
