I graduated in 2017 with a degree in Materials Control, and I currently work at a container manufacturing factory. When I first entered this industry, three books – GB150+GB151+the pressure vessel regulations – really gave me a headache (of course, after working on a couple of projects and understanding the processes, it’s easier to deal with them now). I really want to improve myself in this industry. Do any of you experienced engineers have any advice to share with me? Or rather, please give me a simple plan (what to do first, what to do next, etc.). Let me talk about what I do every day these days. After all, I just started here and haven’t been given many tasks; I have plenty of free time. During the day I read the standard definitions for 150 and 151, and at night I study Ansys. Could everyone give some advice? Thank you! ! !
Theory is one aspect; it’s better to go to the site as often as possible, ideally to work there for some time, and to study the entire process of container manufacturing carefully and thoroughly!
I often go to Shanghai Chuan, where many experts are gathered, and I can learn a lot there.
It is necessary to study standards extensively, but while standards specify how things should be done, it is even more important to understand why they are formulated that way; consult reference materials such as training courses for pressure vessel engineers.
Read the books first before taking exams; follow conventional methods before moving on to analysis; prioritize national standards before considering ASME and other standards. That’s basically all there is to know
There is a thread on the forum titled “Beginner’s Guide to Chemical Processing Equipment,” which can be downloaded for in-depth study.
It’s important to study theory, and it’s also necessary to compare it with the blueprints and go to the workshop to observe how the workers manufacture the products. Some of the structures shown in the blueprints are difficult to understand, but they become clear when seen in person. It’s also useful to pay close attention to the riveting techniques used in equipment manufacturing, so as to understand how the equipment is produced and the sequence of operations involved. This is very helpful for improving one’s design skills :):):)

The field of Material Forming and Control Engineering involves a wide range of topics, which makes it difficult to work in this area in a highly specialized manner. I’m not sure what field you’re in, but if it’s manufacturing or welding, then there are good prospects in the container industry. If it’s design. . . I don’t understand either. . . Experience is nothing but \"applying theory to practice.\"
