Some say the floating disk sinks to the bottom when the liquid level is above it, while others say it happens when the liquid level is below it. I would appreciate it if everyone could explain this, thank you
Personally, analyzing this issue means understanding the relationship between the height at which the floating roof touches the bottom and the designed minimum liquid level for storage. The designed minimum liquid level should be 0.2 m higher than that height, in order to prevent the floating roof from touching the bottom during operation. In this way, the floating roof floats on the surface of the liquid and is in direct contact with it, thereby minimizing the gas space between the floating roof and the liquid surface. For explosive substances, the presence of such a gas space means that there will be gases of these explosive substances, which increases the risk of fire.

Under normal operating conditions, even when the floating disk touches the ground, the liquid level will not rise above the floating disk. When the floating disc is in a floating state, the liquid level should be at the middle of the floating tank, due to there being an immersion depth that is related to the density of the medium. Only in an accident scenario, when the floating roof sinks to the ground, will the liquid level rise above the floating disk.
