This is the first time our company has used S22053. After welding the root layer using TIG welding, we carried out fill and cap welding using shielded metal arc welding (with E2594 as the welding material), and after radiographic inspection, we found a large number of dense pores in the filled area. We also conducted a process test in which we used shielded metal arc welding (with E2594 as the welding material) for the root, fill, and cap layers, adding copper gussets on the back side; again, radiographic inspection revealed a large number of dense pores. I would like to ask those with more experience – have you encountered similar issues? Is it a problem with the welding material or something else?
Pores should be related to the material and ambient temperature!
The welding material standard is 2209. Of course, it’s not due to stomata. Stoma, has your welding rod been baked properly? Is the arc stable during welding?
There should be no problem with the welding rod baking, and there are also no major issues with the arc. The problem lies with the product itself; we conducted another test using a similar test piece, and we saw the same type of dense pores. We now initially suspect that there is something wrong with the welding rods supplied by this manufacturer, and we are considering trying to use rods from another supplier.
What you’re referring to is the conventional option, and I understand that. Previously, when we used S22053 along with welding rods, the welding quality wasn’t very good either. Our main suspicion now is that there’s an issue with this batch of welding materials; we’re considering trying a different manufacturer
