The equipment connection flanges use DN200/300LB ring-type connection flanges, along with metal octagonal gaskets. It has been noticed that there is a small dent on the bottom surface of the groove where the gasket is installed. I would appreciate it if experts could advise me on whether repair is necessary and what method should be used for the repair. I’m waiting urgently for your guidance!
If the defects affect the connection seal, they can be repaired. The method of repair depends on the size and depth of the pit. If they are small dents, they can be smoothed out using sandpaper or a grinder. If it is deep and requires extensive repair, more specialized repair methods such as filling materials and coating materials are needed. It is recommended to consult the equipment manufacturer or professional technicians before carrying out any repairs, to ensure that the normal operation and safety of the equipment are not affected. .
If it hasn’t been welded yet, or if it can be removed, it’s best to put it on a lathe or sand it slightly. If the imprint is shallow, it can be polished with sandpaper on the spot; the octagonal gasket consists of two sealing rings for surface sealing. Use red lead to check whether the imprint is on the sealing surface. If it cannot be removed and the imprint is large and deep on the sealing surface, since a pressure of 300 pounds is not considered high, asbestos rubber sheets or wave-patterned composite gaskets can be used as alternatives. Consider the material temperature and medium conditions when making a choice, and adjust the position of the sealing surface by using a flat seal instead of an RTJ seal.
