In Appendix M of GB/T151-2014 \"Heat Exchangers\", the applicable range of flexible tube sheets is for horizontal exchangers – why is that? Can it be used for vertical ones?
Why can’t it be used… The problem with vertical types is that the additional torque on the upper and lower tube sheets is in exactly opposite directions; this can be taken into account, right, or through stress analysis
When something that is horizontal becomes vertical, it is usually due to additional forces from media or other components; the calculation model may then deviate from the horizontal configuration
The flexible tube sheets in waste heat boilers are used for vertical types.
