Help: In the GB/T12459-2017 standard, the material grades are used to specify the materials for pipe fittings; for example, the material grade AF12 mentioned in the example. Where can I find out what specific material this corresponds to? In the 2005 version, the materials were listed directly, making it easy to understand; now I’m a bit confused.

The two existing standards for steel butt-welded pipe fittings (hereinafter referred to as fittings), namely GB/T 12459—2005 and GB/T 13401—2005, were revised and submitted for approval in the fourth quarter of 2015. In these revisions, the material and technical requirement provisions from the aforementioned two standards were incorporated into the revised GB/T 13401, whose title was changed to \"Steel Butt-Welded Pipe Fittings – Technical Specifications\". The provisions in the original GB/T 12459—2005 and GB/T 13401—2005 regarding the types, specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and type testing of welded pipe fittings, regardless of whether they are seamless or welded, have all been incorporated into the revised GB/T 12459. Therefore, the revised GB/T 12459 corresponds to ASME B16.9, while the revised GB/T 13401 corresponds to pipe material quality standards such as ASTM A234, A403, and A420. The revised GB/T 13401 changes the practice in the original standard of using raw material grades as pipe fitting grades; instead, material grade codes are used to denote the materials of pipe fittings. This will facilitate the selection of pipe fitting materials by designers, the process management by pipe fitting manufacturers, the procurement of raw materials, and subsequent storage. The content related to the material grades for fittings after the standard revision is further elaborated, with the aim of enhancing the understanding of this significant change among designers and fitting manufacturers, so as to ensure proper use of the standard. In simple terms, GB12459 only specifies the external characteristics such as size, length, and wall thickness, while GB13401 covers the internal aspects such as material and heat treatment.
