Our company has several Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers used to heat brine containing high levels of impurities such as Ca2+ and Mg2+. During the heating process, chemical reactions can lead to the formation of deposits such as calcium carbonate; after operating for a while, these deposits block the channels in the heat exchangers, rendering them unusable and forcing them to be taken out of service. It needs to be disassembled during cleaning; each piece is treated with hydrochloric acid to dissolve the deposits, after which it is reassembled for use. Such frequent disassembly and assembly (once a week) causes severe deformation of the plates. I would appreciate it if experts could suggest any better or faster methods to use; thank you!
Have you tried cyclic cleaning with dilute phosphoric acid?

It’s not a problem with the cleaning agent; we tried before to avoid disassembling the plate exchanger, by using dilute hydrochloric acid to be introduced at the material outlet and then circulated back to the acid storage tank via the plate exchanger inlet, thereby continuously adding acid to adjust the pH value, until no further changes in pH occurred and the acid washing process was stopped. However, the inspection of the pickling effect still showed poor results; in areas where the channels were severely blocked, the acid could not circulate and thus could not dissolve the scale layer, so it was better to remove each component and clean it individually. :'(:'(:'(

Cleaning with sulfonic acid does not yield very noticeable results. It can only be disassembled and cleaned with a high-pressure water gun.
