In the \"Fire Protection Design Standards for Petrochemical Enterprises,\" sometimes the standards for liquefied hydrocarbons are applied to the storage and transportation of liquid ammonia, while at other times different rules apply to liquid ammonia. Could you explain why? Thank you!
There are many cases; as indicated in Note 6.3.3, \"Fire separation distances for storage tanks within units containing liquefied hydrocarbons, flammable liquids, and oxidizing liquids,\" the fire separation distance requirements for ammonia storage tanks should be the same as those for liquefied hydrocarbon storage tanks, and the same regulations apply here; Article 6.3.6 stipulates that \"a fire dike shall be provided for fully refrigerated single-containment tanks used for liquefied hydrocarbons, and the effective volume of such a dike shall not be less than the volume of the largest tank,\" while Article 6.3.8 states that \"a fire dike shall be provided for fully refrigerated single-containment tanks used for liquid ammonia, and the effective volume within that dike shall not be less than 60% of the volume of the largest tank.\" There are differences between these provisions, and so on... Why isn’t one standard applied throughout? What differences in nature cause standards to vary in certain aspects? Thank you to the expert for clarifying this! :handshake
