The key aspects to focus on in the market development of the nitrogen fertilizer industry are six in number. Author/Source: Sinochem New Network. Date: November 6, 2020. Clicks: 38. From November 3rd to 4th, 2020, the marketing conference for the fertilizer industry was held in Chongqing. Gu Zongqin, president of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, stated that in light of the various new challenges faced in the marketing of the nitrogen fertilizer industry at present, we must clarify our thinking and take effective measures to improve the production management and operational standards of this industry. In the next phase, six key areas should be focused on in the market-related work of the nitrogen fertilizer industry. First, strengthen marketing and agrochemical services. Gu Zongqin pointed out that China’s agriculture is currently in a critical phase of intensive development and transformation toward modern agriculture. The nitrogen fertilizer industry must meet the demands of agricultural modernization, actively engage with the agricultural and rural markets, accelerate the establishment of specialized agrochemical service systems, innovate marketing concepts and service models, and enhance the technological content of its services by strengthening its marketing and agrochemical service teams, thereby enabling enterprises to shift from being purely production-oriented to production-service oriented. For a long time, agrochemical services have been a weak point for nitrogen fertilizer companies. These companies must pay close attention to the research and development, production, and market promotion of new types of fertilizers, and they need to have sufficient agricultural science and technology professionals at their disposal, in order to create a positive atmosphere focused on serving customers and the market. Convincing farmers is a very difficult task; companies must have special policies to encourage capable individuals to focus on agrochemical services, thereby improving the quality of these services and enhancing the company’s economic performance. Second, step up efforts to crack down on fake fertilizers. Gu Zongqin emphasized that cracking down on fake fertilizers is beneficial for the entire industry. If fertilizer companies fail to combat fraud, it will lead to the phenomenon of bad products driving out good ones; the proliferation of fake fertilizers not only damages the reputation of China’s fertilizer industry but also harms the interests of farmers. The domestic fertilizer brands and reputations that we have built over the years could be ruined in an instant. This year, with the strong support of the **State Administration for Market Regulation**, the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association took the lead in launching the \"Fertilizer Counterfeiting Prevention Campaign\" in collaboration with the China Phosphorus Compound Fertilizer Association and the Potassium Salts and Fertilizers Branch of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association. To improve the efficiency of this campaign, the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association developed the \"Fei Chacha\" mini-program based on the \"National Fertilizer Anti-Counterfeiting and Traceability Service Platform\", and testing of this mini-program has already begun. It is hoped that every enterprise will encourage its employees and customers to make use of the “Fei Chacha” mini-program to report information on fake and substandard fertilizers, thereby helping to improve the functions of this mini-program as soon as possible and ultimately providing reliable support for efforts to combat fake fertilizers in the industry. Third, strengthen services for industrial clients. Gu Zongqin pointed out that the use of nitrogen fertilizers in the industrial sector already accounts for a significant proportion; industrial consumption of urea is close to one-third of the total consumption, and this share is set to continue increasing in the future. Nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers should strengthen communication and coordination with downstream industries such as wood panel manufacturers, power generation companies, enterprises operating desulfurization and denitrification systems, and enterprises that process urea for use in vehicles. They need to keep a close eye on the trends in these downstream sectors, stay informed about customers’ needs, continuously improve product quality, and strive to enhance the level of service provided. Fourth, learn and master as soon as possible the sales model that combines spot and forward trading. Nitrogen fertilizer companies need to quickly become familiar with the operating principles of futures markets, master futures trading techniques, and learn to adopt a sales model that combines spot and futures transactions. On the one hand, it is necessary to quickly develop a specialized team of futures professionals, actively participate in the urea futures training courses organized by the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange, and establish a futures department at an appropriate time. On the one hand, it is necessary to strengthen learning from professional futures companies and carry out business cooperation. Fifth, further advance the development of the fertilizer traceability system. Making fertilizer products traceable is of great significance for preventing counterfeiting, stopping illegal distribution, and cleaning up the fertilizer market. To further advance the development of a traceability system for fertilizer products, 10 companies each were selected from the nitrogen fertilizer and phosphate compound fertilizer industries this year for pilot projects. The industry standard titled \"Requirements for Fertilizer Product Traceability Systems\" is currently open for public comments, with implementation expected to begin next year. It is hoped that the entire industry will fully recognize the necessity and importance of establishing a product traceability system in the fertilizer sector, take proactive actions, and accelerate the development of such a traceability system. Sixth, make efforts to ensure an adequate supply of nitrogen fertilizers this winter and next spring. Every winter, due to factors such as production restrictions caused by severe air pollution and tight natural gas supplies, the availability of nitrogen fertilizers becomes limited and their prices fluctuate, drawing attention from ** and various sectors of society. This year, the possibility of a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic also needs to be taken into account. Gu Zongqin pointed out that ensuring the supply of fertilizers and stabilizing their prices is related to the development of agricultural production and the vital interests of farmers; it is an undeniable responsibility of the nitrogen fertilizer industry, as well as in the interest of nitrogen fertilizer companies. Nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers must ensure proper epidemic prevention and control while maintaining stable production, while distribution companies should organize the storage and transportation of nitrogen fertilizers. This winter and next spring, it is necessary to closely monitor the production and market conditions of nitrogen fertilizers in various regions. Should any trends, early signs, or potential issues that could affect domestic nitrogen fertilizer supply be identified, they should be reported promptly to ** and the association, so that appropriate measures can be taken in a timely manner.
