Is the catalyst matrix the carrier?

The catalyst consists of an active component/carrier/catalyst promoter. What exactly does that matrix refer to?
The names are different, I don’t think the term \"matrix\" was mentioned either when studying.
It depends on what the specific catalyst is. In some catalysts, the active component is also the carrier or matrix of the catalyst itself, such as Raney nickel for hydrogenation, platinum mesh for ammonia oxidation, and molecular sieves for catalytic cracking catalysts. Some catalyst carriers are different from the active components. For some fluid catalysts, they are completely dissolved or dispersed within the reaction system; these are known as homogeneous catalysts.
