It’s not necessarily 5%; it depends on the boiler parameters. The larger the boiler, the higher the requirements for water quality. For every 1% increase in the blowdown rate, fuel consumption increases by about 0.3%. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize the boiler’s blowdown rate while ensuring the quality of the boiler water and steam. Generally, the blowdown rate for low-pressure, small-capacity boilers is controlled at 5% to 10% ； For medium and high-pressure boilers, it is a condensing type that uses demineralized water as make-up water. Depending on the boiler parameters, purpose, and water quality, there is no fixed standard for this, but it generally does not exceed 5%.
