High ammonia nitrogen levels are usually caused by low dissolved oxygen in tank O, unless there is a sudden change in the raw water. It is sufficient to maintain a dissolved oxygen level of over 2 mg/L in tank O on a daily basis; low temperatures in the tank during winter can also lead to high ammonia nitrogen levels. If it is too high, leaving out aeration will cause it to drop.
