Steam flow meters have no moving parts, offering high reliability, precision, and a long service life; they can accurately measure the instantaneous and cumulative flow of gases, liquids, and steam over a wide range of flow rates. It is not affected by medium temperature, pressure, viscosity, or composition; it does not get clogged or stuck, is resistant to scaling, can withstand high temperatures and pressures, and is safe and explosion-proof. Therefore, it is widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemicals, textiles, and heating, where steam flow meters are needed. Below, our technical team will explain the precautions for using steam flow meters:1. When measuring liquids, it is essential to ensure that the sensor of the flow meter is always completely filled with the medium, without any trapped gas.
2. Provide sufficient straight sections upstream and downstream of the instrument, and ensure a symmetrical shape without bends; install valves as close as possible downstream of the instrument.
3. Vertical installation is usually the preferred option, as fluid flowing upward ensures that the instrument remains fully filled, and solid particles in the medium can be evenly distributed.
4. If bubbles may form, a gas separator should be installed.
5. When installing in long pipelines prone to vibration, install dampeners upstream and downstream of the flow meter.
6. If there is a valve located near the upstream end of the sensor, constantly opening and closing this valve can significantly affect the sensor’s lifespan and may even cause permanent damage to it.
7. For steam applications, the instrument should not be installed at the bottom of U-shaped bends, to avoid water hammer effects caused by condensation during operation. The intensity of water hammer can put excessive stress on the sensing mechanism, leading to permanent damage to the sensor.
8. Choosing the correct installation location and properly installing the flow meter are very important aspects; mistakes in installation can lead to reduced measurement accuracy at best, or affect the instrument’s lifespan or even cause damage to it.
9. Try to avoid installing sensors on extremely long overhead pipelines, as over time, the sagging of the sensor can easily result in leakage at the seal between the sensor and the flange. If installation is necessary, pipe fastening devices must be installed 2D distances upstream and downstream of the sensor.
