We use Anubis flow meters to measure the steam flow in our turbines. Recently, the steam flow has increased by nearly 10 tons without any apparent reason. Is it possible that there is a fault with the flow meters? How can we diagnose this issue? Thank you
Theoretically, there is a possibility of a flow meter malfunction, but... if the flow rate returns to zero (4mA) when the gas supply is stopped, the range is normal. So we can’t solve the problem at the factory. It is recommended to have an external inspection; if there are no issues, hand it over to the process team to handle it……
Did the instantaneous flow rate suddenly increase while the operating conditions remained unchanged? If possible, first close the root valve of the pressure tap to determine whether the transmitter can return to zero. If the transmitter is not the problem, then check whether there is any blockage in the pressure tap. If everything is still normal, then it’s necessary to consider whether there are any blockages inside the pipes, which would be quite troublesome.
1. The actual steam volume increases; by comparing it with the compressor’s operating conditions, this issue can be ruled out. Generally, the steam volume of a compressor is around 20–30 T/H, so an increase of 10 T/H represents a significant change; 2. Transmitter failure ; Isolate, open the balance valve; if it returns to zero, the likelihood of a fault is low, and it can also be taken offline for inspection ; 3. There is a slight blockage on the negative pressure side; check the installation direction to ensure it is installed at the lowest point of the pipeline. It is advisable to remove the transmitter and drain the fluid to prevent damage to the transmitter.
Check the transmitter zero point. Do not operate by opening the balance valve. It is best to isolate the pipeline so that both sides of the instrument are exposed to the atmosphere
If there is a blockage inside the pipe, could this be the cause? We have blown air through both the positive and negative pressure pipes, but it’s impossible to determine whether there is a blockage
Can this situation really occur with a slight blockage on the negative pressure side? Are there any examples I can refer to?
First, calibrate the zero point and check whether the positive and negative pressure tubes are blocked; if possible, remove them for inspection
Estimate the zero offset, shut down the three-way valve, and zero the differential pressure
Release water from the discharge outlet to check for blockages, calibrate the zero point, and then put it into use to see if it operates properly
