An octane rating tester is a commonly used testing instrument that features a small size, simple operation, good repeatability, and fast testing speed, enabling it to quickly determine the octane rating of fuel. Principle of operation of the octane rating tester: The principle behind octane and cetane rating testers lies in measuring the dielectric permeability and electromagnetic induction charge characteristics of gasoline’s octane value and diesel’s cetane value. The results are determined by measuring the dielectric properties of the oil and comparing them with the data models already stored in memory. The sensing device is highly precise and capable of detecting even minor changes in dielectric parameters, thereby allowing the measurement of parameters of petroleum products such as octane number and cetane number. Method for testing gasoline using an octane rating tester: 1. Open the outer packaging box, place the instrument on a horizontal surface, and connect the sensor to the main unit of the instrument. 2. Clean the sensor with petroleum ether to ensure that there are no other impurities, precipitates, or oil films in it. 3. Press the “ON” button to turn it on; if there is oil in the sensor, detection values will appear on the display. In that case, clean it again using petroleum ether and ensure that all oil has evaporated completely. 4. Fill the sensor with oil until it is completely filled. 5. The display updates its data every second; if the temperature of the oil being tested differs from the temperature of the surrounding environment, wait for three seconds until the oil reaches equilibrium with the surrounding temperature, and then record the measurement result. 6. Turn off the power, drain the oil to be tested, clean the sensor with petroleum ether, and complete the testing (the main unit will shut down automatically after two minutes with no operation).
