Basic regulations: 1. For lightning protection of instruments, the electrical engineering department is responsible for establishing a grounding network; a shared lightning protection grounding network should be used, but it must not be shared with separate lightning protection devices; 2. The instruments are equipped with lightning surge protection devices, which are connected to the lightning protection grounding network ; 3. The instrument cable trays and pipes, once they enter the control room, should be connected to the protective ground, with grounding at both ends required.
There are no specific regulations, as those in charge are not professionals
I only see that lightning protection inspections are carried out every year, and these are aimed at buildings, factories, and storage tanks; I haven’t seen any specific inspections for instruments. Typically, instruments have surge protection installed in the control cabinet.
It is carried out in full accordance with the requirements of SHT 3164-2012, the Design Code for Lightning Protection of Petrochemical Instrumentation Systems.
1. Level 3 lightning protection: surge protection for power supply, and optoelectronic isolation for signals; 2. Potential bonding of enclosures, cabinets, equipment, etc ; 3. Install lightning protection modules in areas severely affected by lightning.
