During the Spring Festival, I’ve been working on SmartPlant Instrumentation, aiming to use this software for the routine inspection and maintenance of instrument control systems. The process from installation to actual use of the software is quite complicated; there are still some aspects that I haven’t understood. I’m posting this to hope that we can learn from each other and make progress together

I started using a 64-bit Win7 virtual machine, but there were many problems along the way, most of which had no solution – it was extremely frustrating (the details are omitted here). :Curse: In a situation with no other options, I got a broken server and installed 32-bit Windows 2003 as well as 32-bit Oracle 11g; only then did things turn out well and the installation was successful. :Lol. Current system configuration: Lenovo server (replaced by the company because it wasn’t very good), 32-bit Windows 2003, 32-bit Oracle 11g, and SmartPlant Instrumentation software. Notes for installation: The installation guide for the database can be found in the directory extracted from SmartPlant_Instrumentation_2013.zip, specifically in X:\Intergraph_SmartPlant_Instrumentation_2013\install\Installation Guide\Schem SPI Installation Guide.pdf. There’s an error in the installation instructions – it says to select SPI instead of cadWorx; this also caused me a lot of trouble.
There are issues with harmony; some of its modules do not function properly. If it is only used for instrument maintenance, it is recommended to use specialized factory maintenance software

Has the boss used this software? Could you specify which modules cannot be used? There are indeed some issues when practicing*: the Instrument Types menu remains grayed out all the time, and I’m trying to find a solution to this problem. Have you encountered it?
. . . . Isn’t this an engineering design software? Is it useful for inspections and maintenance?
During the learning process, it seems that it should be possible
You can’t use PROCESS DATA or HOOK UP. The problem shown in your diagram seems to be solvable by changing the permissions; I just can’t remember exactly which setting needs to be changed in the management module. If you’re only doing maintenance work, it’s not a big issue. But if this software was used during the design phase of your factory, then it’s almost as if you have to redo the entire design process
In the data table module, all you do is convert the paper versions created by the design institute into electronic forms; the installation diagrams, wiring boxes, circuit diagrams, and material lists are not needed at all. If you use these functions solely for searching, then you basically have to follow everything as it is done in the design firm – provided that you have templates similar to those used by the design firm. Believe me, if you work alone just on creating templates, it could take you half a year, only to find that the efficiency of use isn’t proportional to the effort invested. If it’s for operations and maintenance, Foundation or Enterprise seems more suitable; of course, these are decisions at the company level, and individuals can’t make such decisions.
