The customer’s requirement is to measure only the level changes within 20 mm, and the overall liquid level is only 250 mm; therefore, it seems that the accuracy of magnetostrictive sensors would be more suitable. Having learned that magnetostrictive sensors are not resistant to dirt, I wanted to ask whether such an environment could cause the float to get stuck.
This one is difficult. I can see that the water is flowing and has ripples, which makes it hard to take accurate measurements. The precision requirements are high – changes within 20mm are required. It’s not still water, the measurement range is small, the precision demands are high, and the measurement environment isn’t favorable either; it’s a open channel. If it were in a tank where the water isn’t visible, it might be possible to get by somewhat, but in this case, it’s impossible to meet the requirements – it’s obvious at a glance
For similar operating conditions, we use radar. Add an L-shaped bracket at the edge of the cofferdam. After debugging, it works fairly well, but our requirements aren’t as high as yours
For flowing water, it’s necessary to detect changes of 2 centimeters; such a requirement is difficult to meet in actual operating conditions, as the fluctuations in the liquid level are much greater than 2 centimeters. The one on the 4th floor is a solution

Is this in an explosion-proof area? Try the electrode type; however, the range of variation is too small – only 2 cm?
Wave barriers can be added to control surface fluctuations; However, if the magnetostrictive float gets stuck due to dirt, it needs to be flushed regularly depending on the situation

For this 2CM liquid level, there’s no need to measure it continuously; it’s sufficient to install a liquid level switch!
