Radar level gauges are now commonly used in industrial production processes. Thanks to their easy installation, attractive design, and high accuracy, they have become an excellent choice among various level measurement instruments. However, it is necessary to master certain usage techniques for these products during selection and operation; this helps to minimize damage to the radar level gauge caused by errors in operation, and it also extends the lifespan of the radar level gauge, enabling it to provide accurate measurements over a long period of time. So, what should be taken into consideration when using a radar level gauge? First of all, when selecting and using a radar level gauge, it is essential to pay attention to the measurement range; for example, if the actual range is 10 meters but a gauge with a range of 5 meters is chosen. Operating outside the specified range not only results in inaccurate measurement data but may also cause damage to the radar level gauge. The measurement range should be calculated starting from the bottom of the tank where the light waves reach it. If the storage tank has a special design with a concave bottom, the liquid level will be below the measurement point in such cases, making it impossible to conduct a measurement. It is also necessary to know whether the medium being measured is corrosive, and whether there is foam inside the pipe. Secondly, if the medium being measured is in constant motion, to ensure the accuracy of the measurements, it is recommended to fix the waveguide at the bottom of the storage tank and also at an intermediate position. During welding, it is necessary to maintain the smoothness of the inner wall of the waveguide; to prevent irregularities from interfering with the propagation of waves, a smooth welding process is also essential. This point is also very important and needs to be kept in mind. Also, when measuring low dielectric constant media, if its level is below the liquid level reading and the bottom of the tank is visible, to obtain more accurate measurements, the zero point can be adjusted upward to a position above the bottom of the tank. In practice, the adhesive effect must be taken into account; therefore, the measurement value should be taken as close as possible to a distance of at least 100 mm from the top of the antenna. Whether there is stirring inside the container and the temperature of the medium within it are both factors that need to be taken into consideration when making a selection; in short, choosing the right model is very important for the subsequent use of the radar level gauge.
