I’ve noticed that some metal wound gaskets come without an inner ring, while others do have one. Where are these two types generally used, and what is the difference in their functions? Thank you
Those with an inner ring are used for direct compression, while those without an inner ring are used for grooved butt joints
The inner and outer rings serve to restrict and protect the sealing in the middle. The inner metal ring can be used in flanges with male and female sealing surfaces, while the inner and outer rings can be used for RF and flat sealing surfaces, as well as in high-pressure applications (CLASS 600–1500). For media that are non-corrosive, carbon steel can be used for the inner and outer rings; in cases where corrosion is a concern, stainless steel rings can be employed. Are these mats basically disposable?
