The company currently designs high-risk processes such as nitration, and inspections are being conducted frequently. It has been specified that for the DCS systems used in these high-risk processes, emergency stop soft buttons must be installed, while physical buttons should be provided at the control panels and on the production site to enable emergency shutdowns. The SIS system has been set up independently. Is this requirement reasonable or not? Is it significant or not?
DCS also requires an emergency shutdown to ensure the safety of plant equipment and personnel. Especially when designing high-risk processes, to avoid potential risks, more stringent measures should be taken to ensure the safety of the production process. Therefore, it is reasonable to require the DCS of high-risk processes to be equipped with emergency stop soft buttons, and physical buttons to be installed at the control consoles and on the production site; this helps to enhance safety control during the production process and improve emergency response capabilities. At the same time, setting up an independent SIS system is also one of the necessary measures to enhance security. Therefore, the significance of this requirement is very great, and it deserves serious attention from the company. .
The nitration process should be equipped with an emergency shutdown system; it must meet the following requirements: (1) The measurement units, logic controllers, actuation units, etc., of the basic process control system and the safety instrumented system should be installed separately. (2) The basic process control system shall be equipped with an automatic (emergency) shutdown function, with a “soft” button provided on the operator interface, a physical button installed at the control room, and physical buttons placed in appropriate locations within the workshop (with clear markings). Nonsense – the SIS design provides sufficient safety, so there is no need for a DCS to initiate an emergency shutdown.
As for whether to install an emergency stop button on the DCS, it depends on personal preference*; some systems have them on both the DCS and SIS, while others have them only on the SIS.
But I prefer to just add an emergency stop button on the SIS.
