Is there a big difference between the surge protectors used nowadays and those in the control room? In the case of large oil depots, is it sufficient to install surge protectors only in the control room?

Install surge protectors in accordance with the overvoltage protection scheme. Overvoltage protection in almost all cases should be divided into at least two levels. For example, power supplies and individual discharge devices that have only one level of protection can be installed in different locations; a single discharge device may also include multiple levels of protection. To achieve effective overvoltage protection, it is necessary to divide the area that needs to be protected into different electromagnetic compatibility zones. These protection zones include the lightning protection zone 0, the overvoltage protection zones 1 to 3, and so on, with higher-numbered zones representing areas subject to greater interference voltages.
Surge protectors must be installed on both the field side and the cabinet side; otherwise, they will not provide any protection. On the field side, they can be installed using pipe-mounted systems, and if there are many monitoring points, a box can be used with rail-mounted installations inside that box. On the cabinet side, rail-mounted systems are generally used.
