Differences between oil-coal co-processing and direct coal liquefaction

From a historical development perspective, kerosene co-refining is a special form of direct coal liquefaction; it involves adding heavy oils that meet certain requirements to the direct coal liquefaction reaction system in order to address a range of issues that may arise from direct coal liquefaction. Compared to the direct liquefaction of coal, co-refining with kerosene has several advantages: 1. It addresses the issue of insufficient hydrogen supply solvents that may arise in direct coal liquefaction ； 2. Solve the problem of low cetane number in the diesel fraction obtained from direct coal liquefaction ； 3. By using a single set of equipment to process heavy oil as well, the economic efficiency of the equipment increases ； At the same time, due to the introduction of heavy oil, compared with coal as the sole raw material in direct liquefaction, the selection of oil for co-processing with coal must be considered, taking into account factors such as the mutual solubility between oil and coal, reaction synergy, and the hydrogen supply capacity of the oil.
