The butanol/2-propylheptanol co-production unit at Yan’an Energy Chemicals produced high-quality products. Author/Source: Date: February 22, 2019. Clicks: 8. At 11:30 on February 18, the world’s first butanol/2-propylheptanol co-production unit installed by Yan’an Energy Chemicals successfully produced high-quality 2-propylheptanol, with a purity of 94.12%, which is well above the 80% purity required for qualified products. The butanol/2-propylheptanol plant uses propylene, syngas, mixed tetrahydrocarbons, and hydrogen as raw materials; through aldol condensation and hydrogenation reactions, 2-propylheptanol is produced. Di(2-propylheptyl) phthalate, manufactured from this product, possesses excellent plasticizing properties and is widely used in the production of cable insulation, waterproof fabrics, sheet coatings, films, and automotive components, resulting in high market demand for it. “Domestically, mixed C4 is mostly used as fuel, with less than 30% being utilized in chemical production, resulting in significant waste of resources. Our facility utilizes this mixed C4 as raw material to produce high-value fine chemical products, thereby making full use of it. The commissioning of this facility will effectively accelerate the transformation and upgrading process of the group company, helping it achieve its goals of high-quality development. ”Liu Zhijun, the manager in charge of butanol production at EPDM, told reporters. It is understood that the device successfully produced qualified products on December 24, 2018. Through careful optimization of production plans and targets, as well as steady operation, skilled technicians have produced high-purity, high-quality products. Another by-product of this facility, butanol, was successfully produced as high-quality product on February 13, with a purity of up to 99.5%; to date, more than 700 tons of this product have been sold. Butanol and 2-propylheptanol products will fill the gap in the northwestern region, offering great market potential.
