The coal tar hydrogenation technology and catalysts developed by the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Institute were successfully applied in the project to lighten coal tar fractions at Shandong Weijiao Group. Author/Source: Compiled and published by the Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Network of the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Institute. Date: May 10, 2019. Clicks: 22. The technology and catalysts were provided by the 608 research team of the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Institute, and the 200,000-ton/year project for lightening coal tar fractions carried out by Zaozhuang Zhenxing Energy Co., Ltd. under Shandong Weijiao Group was recently completed and put into operation. On March 23 and March 26, the project successfully produced qualified modified anthracene oil and modified washing oil products, respectively, and achieved full capacity operation on April 5. For many years, the 608 research group at the Shanxi Coal Chemistry Institute has been dedicated to the research and development sowie industrial application of advanced processing technologies and clean utilization methods for coal tar. Taking into account the specific properties of coal tar from different sources and types, they have developed hydrogenation processes for coal tar as well as a series of catalysts specifically designed for such hydrogenation reactions. This project has received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology, as well as various large enterprises. Considering the specific characteristics of the raw materials used by Zaozhuang Zhenxing Energy Company, Project Team 608 carried out systematic research and development work on process flow optimization, adjustment of process parameters, selection of optimal catalyst formulations, and modification of the catalyst preparation processes. As a result, process solutions and catalyst production methods suitable for the characteristics of that company’s raw materials were developed, and qualified catalyst products were produced. The successful commissioning of this device marks another successful industrial application of the coal tar hydrogenation technology and catalysts developed by our institute.
“Xunkai Catalysts boasts a comprehensive range of hydrogenation catalyst products, including those based on Raney nickel, supported nickel, copper-zinc, copper-silicon systems, as well as catalysts on precious metal carriers – both in powder form and for fixed-bed use.
