The SE water-coal (coke) slurry gasification unit, developed in collaboration with East China University of Science and Technology, has entered stable operation at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. Author/Source: East China University of Science and Technology Date: June 10, 2019 Clicks: 28 The SE water-coal (coke) slurry gasification unit at Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Zhenhai Refining & Chemical”) has reached a stage of stable operation, marking another significant achievement by Sinopec and East China University of Science and Technology in the field of coal gasification technology. The SE water-coal (coke) slurry gasification unit is a key facility in Zhenhai Refining & Chemical’s project to adjust and upgrade the hydrogen production raw material structure (the POX project). It utilizes the SE water-coal (coke) slurry gasification technology developed jointly by Sinopec and East China University of Science and Technology, and is included in Sinopec’s “Ten Dragon” scientific research projects. The facility is equipped with 3 gasification units capable of processing thousands of tons of coal per day, operating in a two-in-one-backup configuration, using a quenching process at an operating pressure of 6.5 MPa. The 3 gasification furnaces were successfully commissioned on January 30, February 20, and April 22, 2019, respectively, and are now in a stable production phase. In 2012, Sinopec collaborated with East China University of Science and Technology to establish the Sinopec-East China University of Science and Technology Gasification Technology Research Center, aiming to develop efficient coal gasification technologies through industry-university-research cooperation. In 2014, the single-nozzle cold-wall pulverized coal gasification technology developed through collaboration was successfully demonstrated on an industrial scale at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical’s thousand-tonne-class pulverized coal gasification plant; to date, 11 gasifiers are in operation or under construction. In 2019, the successful commissioning of the SE water-coal (coke) slurry gasification unit at Zhenhai Refining & Chemical will further promote the construction and development of this center, and will make additional contributions to the advancement of coal chemical technology in China.
