The urine tank in Shaanxi Chemical Industry’s 520,000-ton production facility is one of the key components of the production system; its main function is to collect urea solutions within the system in case of production abnormalities. The urine tank is a container with a capacity of 250 m3, equipped at the top with a vent pipe and a liquid seal device. When the liquid level and pressure in the urine tank are high, some gaseous ammonia in the urine is discharged into the atmosphere through the vent pipe. If the diameter of the vent pipe is too small, effective venting does not occur, and as a result some gaseous ammonia can break through the liquid seal and spread throughout the area, contaminating the working environment and posing a risk to the safety of the workers. To prevent such incidents from occurring, the urea plant carried out technical upgrades to the protective device system for the urine tanks during the annual major maintenance period. Based on the daily operation conditions of these tanks, technicians developed a \"Technical Upgrade Plan for Urine Tanks\" through analysis and calculations. At the maintenance site, after obtaining the necessary permits, the workers begin the work under the supervision of a supervisor. In accordance with the requirements outlined in the plan, they replace the vent pipe, changing its inner diameter from D150 to D250. With this larger diameter, when the liquid level and pressure in the urine tank are high during production, the ammonia gas in the tank can be discharged through the vent pipe promptly, thereby preventing the liquid seal from being broken and avoiding the spread of ammonia gas in the area. The technical renovation of the urine tank protection device contributes to the proper operation of the system, safeguards the safety of operators, and prevents air pollution.
