At 2 p.m. on June 29, the methanol-to-olefins unit of Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Chengzhi Yongqing”), a project funded by Chengzhi Co., Ltd., was successfully commissioned for the first time, producing high-quality ethylene and propylene products, which indicates that the unit is now operating normally. On June 26, Chengzhi Yongqing held a launch ceremony for the trial production of its 600,000 tons per year MTO project. Subsequently, personnel at all levels began intensive and organized preparations for starting trial production in accordance with the plan. At 22:58 that night, the unit was ready for feeding, and Yang Chunseng, general manager of Chengzhi Yongqing, gave the order to start introducing methanol into the reactor. All personnel worked day and night, operated with care, and cooperated with one another to overcome various difficulties and streamline the entire process. At 14:00 on June 28, qualified ethylene product was produced, and at 14:00 on June 29, qualified propylene product was produced. Thus, the 600,000 tons/year MTO unit was started successfully for the first time, with all main products meeting the required standards and achieving polymer-grade quality. It is reported that, building on the successful commissioning of the methanol-to-olefins unit in the MTO project, Chengzhi Yongqing will carefully prepare for all the commissioning tests related to the 100,000 tons per year butadiene unit as part of the MTO product optimization project; once the conditions for commissioning are met, the butadiene unit will be put into operation for testing. The total investment in the project of Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is approximately 4.2 billion yuan. It is located in the Jiangbei New Materials Science and Technology Park in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The facility mainly consists of a methanol-to-olefins plant with an annual capacity of 600,000 tons, as well as an optimization project involving a butadiene plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons. The main products are ethylene, propylene, and butadiene, while the by-products include ethane, propane, LPG, and crude benzene. Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was formerly known as Huisheng (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co., Ltd. It was the first company in China to receive authorization for Honeywell UOP’s methanol-to-olefins technology, and its 300,000 tons per year methanol-to-olefins plant came online in 2013. Huisheng (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co., Ltd. was acquired in 2016 by Chengzhi Co., Ltd., an investment firm affiliated with Tsinghua University.
