On July 4, a meeting regarding the digital delivery project for ethylene glycol at Hubei Sanning Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. was held in Shanghai, marking the official launch of Sanning’s digital factory. It is understood that digital factories rely on large amounts of data as a foundation, and they have clear advantages over traditional factories in terms of data integration, retrieval, and extraction; these advantages contribute to improved operation and maintenance, reduced costs, and enhanced efficiency. At the same time, the \"Standards for Digital Delivery of Petrochemical Projects\" GB/T 51296-2018, which came into effect in March this year, also confirms that digital factories will be the inevitable direction of development in the chemical industry. At the meeting, Yang Wenhua, the manager of the ethylene glycol instrumentation department at Sanning Chemical, had discussions with design institutes such as Wuhuan, Donghua, and China State Construction in the building of Schneider Electric, the platform provider. The timeline and work plan for digital delivery have been established, and agreements have been reached with various design institutes regarding equipment, specialties, and process packages. The construction of the Sanning digital factory will be completed simultaneously with the main ethylene glycol project, and at that time a smart factory that combines virtual and physical elements will come into existence. The project to adjust the raw material structure for ammonia production at Hubei Sanning and to produce 600,000 tons per year of ethylene glycol started construction on February 9, 2018. On November 1, 2018, the first steel frame of Boiler Unit 1 in the ethylene glycol boiler system was successfully lifted, marking the start of the installation work; completion of the main construction is expected by December 2019.
