Construction has begun on the integrated carbon material project of Wuhai Baohua Wanchen Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Date: 2019-08-27 Clicks: 17 The integrated carbon material project, with a total investment of 2 billion yuan, has seen construction start; it is expected that by the end of this year, some of the key equipment for the first phase of the project, which aims to produce 50,000 tons of needle coke per year, will be installed. Reporters at the construction site saw that the land grading work for the project had been completed, and workers were carrying out the main civil engineering works. The person in charge told the reporter that the first-phase project with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of needle coke can produce 30,000 tons of cooked coke and 30,000 tons of raw coke. The raw coke is used as a precursor for anode materials and is supplied to the subsequent facilities for producing lithium battery anode materials, while the cooked coke is used to manufacture ultra-high-power graphite electrodes. The total investment in the project is 500 million yuan; construction began in mid-March and is progressing smoothly at present. Liu Shiqiang, deputy head of the Wuhai Baohua acicular coke project team, told reporters: “The installation of key equipment such as the phase formation tower and flash heating furnace will be completed by the end of 2019, with commissioning and operation expected in July 2020.” ” Acicular coke is the main raw material for producing large-sized, ultra-high power graphite electrodes. The first-phase project with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of needle coke is based on the existing coal tar deep-processing facility of Wuhai Baohua Wanchen Company, which has an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons; the soft pitch produced by this facility serves as the main raw material for needle coke. It is reported that the carbon material integration project has a total investment of 2 billion yuan, covers an area of 800 mu, and consists of multiple industrial chain projects. Once fully completed, the project will fill the industrial gaps in the autonomous region. It will play a positive role in accelerating the development of the upstream and downstream industries related to coal chemistry in our city, further improving the level of comprehensive resource utilization, and fostering the growth of strategic emerging industries. Liu Shiqiang, deputy head of the Wuhai Baohua acicular coke project team, said: “Once the integrated carbon material project is completed, Wuhai Wanchen will develop an industrial chain that starts with tar and extends to lithium battery anode materials, graphite electrode materials, and carbon fibers, thus becoming a model for the development of new types of carbon materials.” ”
