On December 4, the installation of the steam drum for Boiler No. 3 in Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Company’s project to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year began. The steam drum weighs 69 tons, and it was lifted using two 10-ton cranes. This represents another significant milestone following the successful installation of the steam drum for Boiler No. 4 on November 28. The lifting and installation of the steam drum for Boiler No. 3 marks the entry into the heating surface installation phase for the 4X460t/h naturally circulating fluidized bed boilers that are part of Inner Mongolia Joutai New Materials Company’s project to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, thereby laying the foundation for the next stages of work on the boiler island. It is reported that Inner Mongolia Jiutai New Materials Co., Ltd. is located in the Tuqing Industrial Park in Tuoketuo County, and plans to build a plant with an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene glycol. To meet the large demand for steam from all the process units in the plant and ensure the reliable operation of the chemical processing equipment, 4×460t/h high-temperature and high-pressure circulating fluidized bed boilers along with their supporting facilities have been installed as the steam generation system for this chemical project. The JiuTai New Materials ethylene glycol production project has an annual capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene glycol. Located in the western area of the industrial park in Tuoketuo County, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia, the project uses coal as raw material and employs mature space-based pulverized coal gasification technology as well as Shell’s pressurized pulverized coal gasification technology, along with the world-leading Davy Company’s formaldehyde hydroxymethylation process to produce ethylene glycol. Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Jutai Group; it was registered in March 2017. The company’s project for producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year is a **key innovation project in the field of new coal chemical technologies that is highly encouraged, and it is also a coal-based ethylene glycol project that receives strong support from Hohhot City. The total land area covered by this project is 2,565 mu, with a total investment of 13.3 billion yuan. Among them, Air Products Inc. of the United States invested 4.8 billion yuan to construct the air separation and gasification areas. The construction period for this project is 3 years; trial operation is planned for 2020, with full production starting in 2021. Once in operation, it is expected to generate annual sales of 10.6 billion yuan and profits and taxes of 3.66 billion yuan, playing a vital role in addressing the shortcomings in Hohhot’s industrial sector.
