Recently, Shanxi Xiangrui Energy Co., Ltd., a company based in the Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone, and ChaiGou Coal Industry signed a contract for a project aimed at the comprehensive utilization of low-concentration methane gas as well as the development of CCER (China Certified Emission Reductions), taking another important step forward in the field of CCER development. This project focuses on low-concentration gas, an “invisible climate killer,” and through technological innovation it achieves the integrated utilization of gas resources and carbon emission reduction, opening up new paths for the green transformation of the traditional energy industry and mines. It is understood that low-concentration gas (methane concentration ≤8%) is often regarded as a \"waste resource\" due to the difficulties involved in its utilization. Its greenhouse effect, however, is 25 times that of carbon dioxide; the emission of 1 ton of methane is equivalent to 25 tons of CO2. China’s coal mines extract over 12 billion cubic meters of low-concentration gas each year, and more than 90% of this gas is released directly into the atmosphere due to technical limitations. This not only exacerbates the global greenhouse effect but also poses safety risks such as gas explosions. Traditional combustion treatment methods are energy-intensive and inefficient, making it difficult to meet environmental requirements. The low-concentration coal mine gas comprehensive utilization project at Chaigou Coal Industry, signed by Xiangrui Energy this time, is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 58,300 tons per year in terms of equivalent volume. Through innovative technologies, the project enables the safe treatment and efficient utilization of coal mine gas, providing a replicable green solution for the industry. The project employs a range of cutting-edge technologies to completely solve the problem of treating low-concentration gas. Among these, the static follow-up mixing technology reduces the methane concentration to 1.2% by precisely mixing low-concentration gas with air, after which it enters an RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer) for safe oxidation, releasing thermal energy and thus completely eliminating the problem of direct emission. As a leading green development operator in the country, Xiangrui Energy focuses on areas such as forest carbon sequestration, gas utilization, and new energy, and has established a comprehensive service system covering the entire process from development to certification and trading. The signing of the Chaigou project not only demonstrates Xiangrui Energy’s capabilities in the field of low-carbon technology innovation, but also injects new vitality into the CCER market. By combining the utilization of gas resources with the development of carbon assets, this project offers a new paradigm for the green transformation of the traditional energy industry. A representative from Xiangrui Energy said that the company is committed to developing replicable and scalable low-carbon solutions to facilitate the green transformation of the energy industry and help build a zero-carbon future. In the future, innovation in technology will continue to drive efforts to fully utilize the potential of resources such as low-concentration gas, and to include more green projects in the carbon market, thereby contributing to the achievement of the \"dual carbon\" goals.
