Groundbreaking ceremony for Hebi Tengfei Clean Energy’s project to produce ethanol from dimethyl ether held Author/Source: Huahua Network – Coal Chemical Industry Date: 12-01-2019 Clicks: 1297 On the morning of November 28th, the groundbreaking ceremony for Hebi Tengfei Clean Energy Co., Ltd.’s project to produce 300,000 tons of ethanol per year from dimethyl ether was held in the southern part of the Moushan Industrial Park in Shancheng District, Hebi City, Henan Province. Yu Xiyou, chairman of Hebi Tengfei Clean Energy Co., Ltd., Zhang Taisheng, deputy general manager of China Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd., Li Xianfeng, assistant to the director of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ren Xiaoguang, general manager of Yanchang Zhongke (Dalian) Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and Wang Hui, deputy general manager, attended the opening ceremony. It is reported that this project uses syngas and dimethyl ether as raw materials; ethanol is produced through the carbonylation of dimethyl ether and the hydrogenation of methyl acetate. It employs the process technology for carbonylation of dimethyl ether followed by hydrogenation, developed by Liu Zhongmin, director of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This is a world-first process for producing ethanol from syngas/methanol via dimethyl ether carbonylation and hydrogenation, offering significant advantages in terms of cost, safety, and environmental protection. The main components of Hebi Tengfei Clean Energy Co., Ltd.’s project for producing 300,000 tons of ethanol from dimethyl ether per year include the construction of new reaction vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, shielded pumps, heating furnaces, mixers, air coolers, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, as well as the associated utility systems, infrastructure, and auxiliary facilities. The project covers an area of 500 mu, with a total investment of 1.18 billion yuan. The construction period is one year, and after completion it is expected to generate annual sales revenue of 1.68 billion yuan and an annual total profit and tax amount of 380 million yuan. On October 26, 2019, at the China Henan Open Innovation and Cross-border Technology Transfer Conference, Yanchang Zhongke (Dalian) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Hebi Tengfei Clean Energy Co., Ltd. signed an agreement regarding a project in Shancheng District, Hebi City, aimed at producing 300,000 tons of ethanol from dimethyl ether per year. Once the project is put into operation, it will enable the development of multiple chemical production routes, which is of great significance for extending, enhancing, and transforming the clean energy industry in Hebi City.
