Recently, three invention patents for needle coke submitted by Shenmu Coal Chemical Tianyuan Company – namely, “A method for maximizing the utilization of coal tar in the production of coal-based needle coke,” “A production process for coal-based needle coke,” and “A method for preparing raw materials for coal-based needle coke” – were approved by the **Intellectual Property Office. The three invention patents that have been granted successively address the technical challenges associated with existing processes for producing coal-based needle coke. These include the difficulty in recovering solvents, low comprehensive utilization of raw materials, deterioration in the performance of solvents after repeated recycling, and the inability of the mixing equipment used in the purification of coal tar pitch to maintain a stable temperature, which affects the dissolution of the pitch. Additionally, existing methods for preparing coal-based needle coke suffer from high production costs, as well as high QI content in the resulting coal-based needle coke. These three inventions effectively reduce the energy consumption associated with solvent recovery and increase the solvent recovery rate, which is beneficial for companies in terms of cost reduction and efficiency improvement, as well as for reducing environmental pollution. In 2018, the company’s technology R&D center submitted 5 invention patents and 1 utility model patent based on the technology it had developed independently for preparing new carbon materials from medium- and low-temperature coal tar, and all of these were approved by the **Intellectual Property Office. To date, the company has filed a total of 119 patents and has been granted **88 patents, including 32 invention patents and 56 utility model patents.
