At 17:00 on June 8, 2020, the last brick was placed at the cone bottom of Furnace E in the gasification unit for the industrial upgrading project; with the construction quality approved, the construction of both gasification furnaces in the gasification island of this project was completed. As the core equipment of the gasification island project, the gasifier utilizes advanced coal-water slurry pressurized gasification technology to produce qualified syngas for subsequent processes. The quality of the construction of the gasifier is crucial for its proper operation. To ensure the high-temperature resistance of the gasification furnace, special type of refractory bricks must be used to line the furnace walls closely; each type of refractory brick requires a matching mortar for bonding, and the construction environment as well as the construction techniques must meet extremely strict requirements. Due to the complex structure of the furnace, each gasification furnace uses a total of 68 different types of refractory bricks, with an overall count of 14,661 bricks. The variety of refractory brick types is quite large, and coupled with the need for construction in a sealed environment at heights as well as safety controls regarding material transportation, building such furnaces is extremely difficult. Through the diligent efforts of the industrial upgrading project team and the construction party in carrying out the preliminary preparations for furnace construction, all such tasks were completed on April 8. At 13:50 on April 9, with the first batch of furnace bricks being lifted slowly, the construction of Gasifier D officially began. After the furnace construction began, the Engineering Management Department of Xinxiang Ammonia Synthesis Division, in conjunction with the Fourth Branch Company, established a furnace construction team dedicated to coordinating various quality and safety issues throughout the construction process. Construction and supervision staff report on the day’s progress and any issues in the group chat every day, and the relevant responsible persons provide solutions promptly. Before constructing with refractory bricks, the furnace construction team conducts precise measurements of their dimensions and weights to ensure that the correct models are used. During the masonry process, the project team carried out inspections step by step, checking the levelness, the saturation of the mortar, and the gaps between bricks. After the masonry was completed, the radius of the furnace bricks was measured and compared with the specifications in the drawings; any issues detected were addressed promptly, thereby ensuring the construction progress and quality to the greatest extent possible. Under the strict supervision of the project team and the construction party, at 17:00 on June 8, the furnace builders completed the construction of the gasification furnace without any accidents and with high quality. At this point, the gasification island has also entered the various preparation stages prior to furnace heating. Going forward, the team involved will continue to maintain a high standard and strict requirements in order to ensure the smooth progress of the furnace heating process, and will make every effort to complete all the tasks required before testing the gasification island.
