On April 25, 2020, the two AP gasifiers for the Inner Mongolia Jutai syngas project, developed jointly by Suzhou Hailu Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and Air Products (China) Investment Company, were successfully completed and shipped.
On May 26, a major milestone was achieved in the large-scale syngas island project jointly developed by Inner Mongolia JiuTai New Materials Co., Ltd. and Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (referred to as AP Company): the hoisting of the gasification furnace for the project aimed at producing 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year.
Mr. Wang, Chairman of Inner Mongolia JiuTai New Materials Co., Ltd., said that the aerospace gasification furnace is the core of the gasification unit, and the gasification unit area represents another key component of the entire project. Progress has been rapid since work resumed, with various large-scale equipment arriving one after another. The space gasification furnace being installed today is capable of handling 2,000 tons of coal per day; it can produce 125,000 standard cubic meters of useful gas per hour. Together with the AP furnace, it will supply the basic useful gas needed for production throughout the entire plant area. This lifting operation has fulfilled the key milestone schedule for the gasification unit area, marking the full entry of the gasification unit into the equipment installation phase and laying a solid foundation for subsequent installation work.
As of May 26, 2019, prior to Yunnan Tianan Chemical Co., Ltd. (Tianan Chemical) undertaking a comprehensive planned maintenance campaign across the plant, the AP gasifier achieved an excellent performance by operating at full capacity and at Class A efficiency for 249 consecutive days. In 2004, Yunnan Tianan Chemical Co., Ltd. signed an agreement for the transfer of the AP gasification technology (formerly Shell gasification technology) to produce synthetic ammonia using local anthracite, thereby serving downstream phosphate fertilizer plants.
The AP gasifier is designed to produce 140,000 cubic meters per hour of effective gas, enabling the plant to manufacture 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia per year. The project was successfully commissioned in 2008, its performance was evaluated in 2010, and it achieved stable, continuous, and optimal operation by 2012. To date, Tianan Chemical has won the Best Operation Award awarded by patent holders for seven consecutive years. In particular, in 2017 the plant achieved an annual production of 542,700 tons of synthetic ammonia (108% of its designed annual capacity). In 2018, even after undergoing a 40-day major maintenance campaign, the plant still managed to reach an annual production level of over 500,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, as per the design specifications.
Since the successful commissioning of Yunnan Tianan Chemical, Yuntianhua Group has subsequently invested in two more units using AP gasification technology (Yuntianhua Shuifu (waste boiler process) and Hulunbuir Jinxin (downstream quenching process)). The Shuifu project has been in operation since 2012, and since 2014 it has won the Best Operation Award awarded by the patent holder for four consecutive years ； The Jin Xin project went into operation on June 18, 2016; that same year it achieved an online rate of over 90%, and was awarded a special prize for optimal operation by the patent holder. In 2017/2018, it received the award for optimal operation from the patent holder for two consecutive years.
On that day, Sinochem Sixth Construction won the bid for the construction and installation work of the Shell furnace for the syngas production unit in the gas island project of Air Chemical Products (Hohhot) Co., Ltd. The project is located in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. The planned start date is May 1, 2019, and the completion date is April 15, 2021. The scope of construction work undertaken by the company includes civil works, equipment installation, piping, electrical systems, instrumentation, anti-corrosion and insulation measures, water supply and drainage systems, decoration, as well as ventilation and air conditioning for various units such as gasification units, slag and wastewater treatment systems, substation areas, and cabinet rooms.
On July 1, 2020, at around 11 a.m., the assembly work of the first set of internal components for the AP gasifier at Inner Mongolia Jutai began, with these components being manufactured by Suzhou Hailu Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. It is expected that they will be delivered to the construction site within two weeks, allowing for the completion of the overall assembly of the gasifier on site at Jutai. All the cadres and employees on site in Inner Mongolia offered their practical actions as a gift for the Party’s 99th birthday. Xu Yuansheng, the company’s chairman, sent a congratulatory message to the employees and staff stationed at the site in Inner Mongolia on behalf of the headquarters as soon as possible.
