The Yuheng FTO syngas-to-oil project is operating at full capacity. Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Forum Date: 2020-08-18 Clicks: 8 Recently, the resource comprehensive utilization demonstration unit of the Yuheng acetic acid project, which was EPC-general contracted by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the “FTO syngas-to-oil project”), has started operating at full capacity. This is the first time since the project’s pilot production that it has operated at 100% capacity; the unit is running smoothly and all performance indicators meet the expected standards. It is reported that the FTO syngas-to-oil project utilizes a new type of cobalt-based catalyst slurry-bed syngas-to-oil process technology, developed through collaboration between the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Yanchang Petroleum Group. This technology features high performance and a long service life; it represents China’s first demonstration facility for syngas-to-oil production using a cobalt-based catalyst in a slurry-bed reactor. The plant uses fresh syngas as its raw material, with liquefied gas, naphtha, and diesel being the main products, achieving an annual nominal production capacity of 150,000 tons of refined oil. The facility is divided into 7 main units, with 432 sets of process equipment. It is understood that the project’s engineering design began in April 2013; construction was largely completed by the end of May 2015, and trial operation with feedstock was carried out in September 2015, enabling the entire process to be operational. Through careful adjustments and continuous efforts, numerous technical challenges were successfully overcome. Operation at 40% capacity was achieved in 2016, 80% capacity in 2018, and the plant was brought back into operation in June 2020, achieving 100% full capacity production. From July 19 to 22, the project completed a 72-hour internal calibration, and from August 8 to 11, it carried out an external calibration by the Petrochemical Federation. At present, all stages of production are operating in an orderly manner, and the facilities are running smoothly. The Yuli Coal Chemical FTO syngas-to-oil project is now operating at full capacity, injecting another strong boost into the company’s development.
