It was officially put into operation on December 28, 2016, and is capable of converting 20.46 million tons of coal locally each year, producing 4.05 million tons of oil products such as synthetic diesel, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas per year. The localization rate of the process technologies and equipment for this project reaches 98.5%; 37 key technologies, equipment, and materials have been localized, breaking the foreign countries’ long-term monopoly on the core technologies in coal-to-oil chemical manufacturing. A development model for the deep processing of coal that features high technological content, high added value, and a long industrial chain has been established. As of 2017, coal still accounted for 62% of China’s energy supply. This project establishes a path for large-scale replication, and it holds great strategic significance for ensuring **energy security.
