As of August 16, 2020, the A-grade operation of Series 1 “Five-Ring” furnaces in the Yongcheng plant had exceeded 160 days, achieving the best record to date; it is now moving toward even higher goals and standards. The powder coal gasification “WHG” furnace was jointly designed and developed by Henan Energy and Chemical Group and Wuhuan Design Institute. It was introduced to the Yongcheng industrial park in 2012, and trial operation began in 2015. Over the past five years, through trials and challenges, the “Five-Ring” furnace has withstood the test of practice and taken new steps forward in long-term operation. Facing the challenges head-on to overcome the problems associated with long-duration operation: In the early stages of testing, the operation time could not exceed 72 hours, which led to skeptical views from gasifier experts both at home and abroad. “The “Five Rings” furnace is an improvement over the “Shell” gasifier; it should have greater operational flexibility than the “Shell” gasifier and a longer operating cycle as well. However, this is not the case in reality. Where exactly is the problem? A difficult task lies before us all. “We conducted thorough analysis and research, and in light of the actual circumstances, we modified some technical approaches. ”Zhang Jiachao, the deputy director of Unit 2 Gasification Plant, told the author. Identify the root causes of problems and address the weaknesses; no matter how difficult it is, we must overcome them. The unit established a technical task force to carry out technical upgrades aimed at addressing the bottleneck issues that affect the long-term operation of the gasification furnace. The first modification was made to the cooling medium used in the quenching section of the gasifier; as a result, the frequent slag clogging problem in this section was effectively resolved, and the A-grade operation time of the \"Five Rings\" furnace exceeded 70 days. Secondly, the spraying method of the quenching water at the top of the quenching tank, as well as the flow rate of the synthetic gas entering the tank, were modified. Through these changes, the problems of insufficient quenching water volume and easy blockage of the channels at the top of the quenching tank were resolved, enabling operation for a long period of 100 days. A high pressure difference in the wet scrubber is another bottleneck affecting the long-term operation of the “Five Rings” furnace. How to reduce the pressure difference while ensuring the ash removal capacity of the wet scrubber? On the one hand, this unit continuously optimizes the amount of water used for washing and adjusts the dosage of chemicals; on the other hand, it replaces the originally designed fixed-valve trays with three-dimensional mass transfer trays, thereby increasing the area of contact between liquid and gas and enhancing the mass transfer efficiency. Hard work pays off; through continuous exploration and practice, the pressure difference in the wet scrubber was effectively controlled, which further contributed to the ability of the “Five Rings” furnace to operate for extended periods of time.
