In order to reduce the ammonia content in the exhaust gases from the medium-pressure system of the urea production unit as well as the pressure in that system, Zhongyuan Dahua’s fertilizer production department carried out modifications to the medium-pressure system during the maintenance period. An ammonia cooler named E111C was installed above E109; the ammonia gas that could not be condensed by E109 proceeded to the shell side of E111C where it was further condensed, with cold water from a chiller being used for heat exchange on the tube side. The urea plant of the Fertilizer Division, together with the engineering and maintenance staff, braved the scorching heat and harsh weather over a period of three months, and completed the renovation work on August 31. The urea plant made every effort to get ready in a timely manner, issuing in advance the \"E111C Commissioning Plan\" and the \"E111C First Commissioning Confirmation Form.\" The teams studied the relevant operating procedures for E111C ahead of time to become familiar with the pipeline layout at the site. At 2 p.m. on August 31, site engineer Wang Yanwei led his team to perform air purging and leak detection on the E111C chilled water system, followed by leak detection and purging/replacement operations on the process system. After confirming that all system equipment, pipelines, flanges, valves, and other components were in good condition, the E111C unit was officially put into operation at around 16:00 on September 1. As the E111C cold water return cut-off valve opened fully, the E111C was put into operation and began to function normally.
