“\"Technology for Producing Polyglycolic Acid from Syngas\" – Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Achievements by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation/Author/Source: Modern Coal Chemical Engineering/Date: 2020-09-16/Clicks: 46. On September 11, 2020, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized experts in Beijing to evaluate the scientific and technological achievements of the project \"Technology for Producing Polyglycolic Acid from Syngas\", developed by Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. The appraisal committee for this occasion was composed of nine renowned experts in the field of energy and chemicals, including Academician Cao Xianghong from Sinopec Group Co., Ltd., Academician Tan Tianwei, President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Academician Yuan Qingtang from Sinopec Group Co., Ltd., and Academician Yang Wantai from Tsinghua University. The meeting was chaired by Hu Qianlin, deputy secretary-general of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. Relevant leaders such as Li Shousheng, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, Zhang Jiming, assistant general manager of **Energy Group, Yan Guochun, chairman of the Chemicals Company of **Energy Group, and Zhu Shen, chairman of Shanghai Pujing Chemical Technology Co., Ltd., attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Using syngas as a raw material, this project achieves the production of the biodegradable plastic polyglycolic acid through the process route of \"syngas – dimethyl oxalate – methyl glycolate – polyglycolic acid\". Using this technology, a 1,500-ton/year polylactic acid demonstration plant was built at Inner Mongolia Pujing Polymer Materials Technology Co., Ltd. at the end of 2019. This plant is now operating stably, producing qualified polylactic acid products, and has passed the on-site operation assessment organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The evaluation committee believes that this project offers a new path for the development of modern coal chemical industry in our country toward higher-value products; it is highly innovative. The process for producing PGA using syngas as a raw material is unique, and the overall technology reaches international advanced levels.
