Successful Thermal Test for Tangshan Dongri’s 300,000 tons/year Carbon-Based New Energy Materials Project Author/Source: Yahuah Coal Chemical Industry Date: November 12, 2020 Clicks: 9 Recently, the thermal load test for the first phase of the project to produce 300,000 tons of new energy materials per year at Tangshan Dongri New Energy Materials Co., Ltd., which was undertaken by the Engineering Technology Division under Baosteel Engineering, was successful – coke was produced successfully! This project is the first full-process project from tar to needle coke undertaken by Baosteel Engineering, and it is also the largest coal-based needle coke project to be completed in one go in China during that period. The first phase of the Tangshan Dongri project includes the construction of facilities for processing 100,000 tons per year of needle coke and 400,000 tons per year of coal tar. The project utilizes internationally advanced coal-based technology for producing needle coke, as well as anode materials for ultra-high power lithium batteries. The project simultaneously achieved two firsts in the domestic industry: the first set of processes for producing industrial naphthalene without phenol removal ; The first set is used for directly producing needle coke from soft asphalt. Innovating processes from scratch: This project began construction in late October 2018. It involves large investment, a tight schedule, and novel processing techniques; all auxiliary systems need to be built from scratch, with no external support available. Faced with a severe environmental situation, and in order to address the issue of wastewater treatment, the project creatively adopted a new tar processing technique that involves no use of alkalis throughout the entire process, as well as no washing or decomposition steps. With the care and support of the project owners and management at all levels, the project team arranged the construction schedule in a rational and orderly manner, overcame the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the schedule, and made every effort to ensure that the project was completed on time. The successful implementation of this project further demonstrates Baosteel Engineering’s expertise and reliability in the field of new carbon materials, helping Tangshan Dongri to advance its raw material industry toward higher-end levels, to expand into downstream industries, as well as into the fields of new materials and precision processing.
