Recently, reporters learned from the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone Management Committee that the subsequent works for the first phase of CNOOC’s Mengxi coal-to-natural gas pipeline project will begin in late September. These works include the Dingxing-Huanghua section of the main pipeline, the Tianjin LNG connection line, and the Langfang branch line, with a total length of approximately 382 kilometers. In accordance with the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission, the project is to be completed and put into operation by November 30, 2020. Once completed, the liquefied natural gas from CNOOC Tianjin LNG Terminal, along with the natural gas from the Bohai Sea, will be supplied to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It will be possible to supply 14 million cubic meters of gas per day to the new area, thereby ensuring a stable supply of clean energy in this region and helping to reduce air pollution. It is understood that the CNOOC Mengxi Pipeline Project serves as a \"public transportation channel\" for transporting gas, supporting the coal-to-natural gas projects in the western region of Inner Mongolia and the Datong area of Shanxi. The pipeline starts in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, passes through Hohhot, Shuozhou, Datong, Baoding, Langfang, and Tianjin, and ends in Huanghua, Hebei, with a total length of approximately 1,279 kilometers. In December 2017, the project was **approved**. It will be constructed in three phases following the implementation strategy of \"overall approval, construction in stages, with priority given to building the pipeline section in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area\"; phase one will focus on building the 413.5-kilometer pipeline within Tianjin and Hebei provinces. Among them, the 31.5-kilometer \"interconnection section\" of Phase 1 was completed and put into operation in November 2018, delivering 200 million cubic meters of natural gas to North China during the winter of 2018. During the interview, the reporter learned that in accordance with the **NDRC’s requirements to accelerate the construction of key projects aimed at improving the interconnection of natural gas infrastructure, the first phase of the Mengxi pipeline project has been designated as a key interconnection project for 2019**. As the developer of this project, CNOOC North China Gas Pipeline Co., Ltd. officially established its operations in the Lingang area of the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone at the end of 2018. A relevant official from the Lingang High-Tech Industry Development Bureau of the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone said that the Mengxi Pipeline Project, as a major infrastructure project, will provide a supply of clean energy for the social and economic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as well as for the construction of new areas, bringing significant benefits to society. Furthermore, this project is another concrete manifestation of the implementation of the major strategy for coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and it holds great significance for accelerating the high-quality development of the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone.
