Author/Source: Coal Chemical Engineering 114 Forum; Date: December 14, 2020; Clicks: 3. Recently, the salt separation and crystallization unit for high-salinity water treatment, part of the first phase of the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project, which was constructed by Jiangsu Zhongsheng High-Tech Industry Co., Ltd. using a turnkey EPC approach, has successfully produced salt. The operation of this unit has enabled the completion of the relevant processes, creating favorable conditions for the implementation of environmental protection measures across the entire Shenhua Yulin plant. It also marks another significant advancement in the progress of this project. The construction scale of the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Comprehensive Utilization Project (Phase I) is a methanol production facility with an annual capacity of 1.8 million tons and an ethylene glycol production facility with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons. The construction scope includes process units, utility systems and auxiliary facilities, off-site projects, as well as production management and administrative living facilities. The high-salt water desalination and crystallization unit is a utility facility constructed as part of this project, with a designed capacity of 450 m3/h. It consists of a pretreatment unit and an evaporation crystallization unit. The water from the device products is reused in the circulating water system as make-up water, while the high-quality sodium sulfate and sodium chloride crystalline salts obtained through separation are utilized as resources. This project involves a large volume of wastewater with complex and variable water quality components, posing significant technical challenges. The project team overcame various technical challenges, as well as difficulties such as the sudden outbreak of the pandemic and severe weather conditions, remained committed to adhering to the scheduled timelines, and made every effort to advance the project’s completion schedule. This time, the high-salt water desalination crystallization unit successfully produced salt, laying a solid foundation for the official commissioning of the project. Next, the Zhongsheng High-Tech project team will continue to make every effort to advance the construction progress, thereby making a positive contribution to energy conservation and emission reduction in the plant’s water system. The Phase I project of the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project (SYCTC-1 Project) is the preliminary phase of this initiative. It also serves as a facility for producing methanol raw materials to support the already completed Shenhua Shaanxi Methyl Alcohol Downstream Processing Project (SSMTO). The construction scope includes an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of methanol along with 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year. The facility comprises various process units such as air separation, gasification, shift reaction, acidic gas removal, methanol synthesis, sulfur recovery, and ethylene glycol production, along with the necessary utility systems and auxiliary facilities. Once completed, it will enable integrated production and management alongside the SSMTO project. The project has chosen General Electric’s (GE) high-cooling, efficient water-coal slurry gasification technology to promote the clean, comprehensive, and efficient utilization of coal. The project utilizes 5 gasifiers of the single-series type, with a coal feeding rate of 3,100 tons per day on a dry basis, operating in a slurry-cooled process; the pressure level is 6.5 MPa. These gasifiers are equipped to produce 1.8 million tons of methanol per year (for olefin production), as well as 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol and other high-value downstream products. The Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project (referred to as the CTC Project) was officially approved by the **National Development and Reform Commission on March 16, 2015 (Document No. FGNY [2015] 508). It is, to date, the coal chemical project with the largest single investment in the world; the total investment in the project amounts to 120 billion yuan.
