The gas transmission pipeline for Zhongtai Coal Coking’s project to produce methanol from 200,000 tons of coke oven gas has been completed and put into operation. Author/Source: Gasification World. Date: April 25, 2021. Clicks: 30. At 11:32 on April 23, the gas transmission pipeline from Fengfeng Coal Coking Co., Ltd. to Zhongtai Coal Coking Co., Ltd. was put into operation. To address the issue of insufficient supply of raw gas for Zhongtai’s 200,000 tons per year methanol production project using coking oven gas, the company conducted a thorough investigation into the gas usage patterns of enterprises in the surrounding area. Through various efforts and with strong support from the local authorities as well as Henan Energy Xinjiang Company, the construction was ultimately completed. The project was designed by MCC Jiaonai (Dalian) Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. and constructed by Henan Guolong Mining Construction Co., Ltd. Its implementation was officially approved in March 2020, with construction beginning in September. The construction of this project involves the installation of gas pipelines with a total length of 2,100 meters. The delivery capacity of the coke oven gas is 28,000 cubic meters per hour. Additional equipment and facilities such as pipe supports, compensators, gate valves, water seal tanks, and liquid collection tanks are also installed. The gas pipelines are laid overhead; they pass through the Fengfeng Coking Plant area and across Central Avenue before reaching the Zhongtai Coking Plant area. Through the joint efforts and cooperation of various technical experts, and after more than 7 months of work, the project was ready for gas transmission on April 20. On April 23, following safety inspections, purging and replacement procedures, oxygen content analysis, and successful explosion tests carried out by the personnel on site, the gas transmission through the pipeline and its connection to the gas network were officially completed. At present, the gas supply volume provided by Fengfeng Coal Coking has been increased to 10,000 cubic meters per hour. Personnel from various parties are gradually adjusting the pressure in the gas pipeline network in order to increase the gas supply and ensure that it meets the production needs of the methanol project. The completion of this project has increased the utilization rate of the abundant gas resources in the industrial park, reducing the environmental pollution caused by the combustion of released gas. Overview of the 200,000-ton/year coke oven gas-to-methanol project: Zhongtai Coal Coking is the first coal chemical enterprise in Baicheng County, Aksu Region, Xinjiang, to use coke oven gas for methanol production. Its 200,000-ton/year coke oven gas-to-methanol project produces methanol through processes such as precise desulfurization, conversion, syngas compression, methanol synthesis, and methanol distillation. It features low investment, high output, energy efficiency, and good economic benefits. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will be able to consume 432 million cubic meters of excess gas from coke ovens each year, and make use of 250 million cubic meters of hydrogen resources. This will result in a reduction of 39,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, thereby addressing the environmental pollution caused by the release of coke oven gas. In addition, the project can produce 200,000 tons of refined methanol per year, generating an annual output value of 440 million yuan and profits and taxes of over 50 million yuan; it will also create more than 150 job opportunities in Baicheng County. Once the project is put into operation, it will further facilitate the transformation of local resources with advantages, promote the economic development and structural adjustment of Baicheng County, and achieve both environmental protection and economic benefits
