Progress on the construction of the 1.01 million tons/year modern coal chemical plant at Shanxi Xiangyuan New Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. Author/Source: Coal Chemical Industry 114 Forum Date: 2021-06-25 Views: 51. Visiting the construction site of the 1.01 million tons/year modern coal chemical plant at Shanxi Xiangyuan New Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., located in the Qinyuan Economic and Technological Development Zone, one sees that this large-scale site covering an area of about 659 mu is bustling with activity, as bulldozers, rammers, cranes, and concrete pump trucks are all working hard there. With tall chimneys, numerous cranes, vehicles moving back and forth, and crowds of people, the exposed loess has been covered with green nets, donning a \"green coat.\" Here, dots and lines, movement and stillness blend perfectly together to create a vivid picture of active construction. At the construction site, above the retaining walls of the two large coke ovens, rebar was used to construct arch-shaped blue shelters. “This is a fully enclosed canopy for coke ovens, for which we invested over 30 million yuan to pilot its construction in the Changzhi area first. It’s equivalent to placing a cover over the coke ovens, allowing all the residual heat from the flue gases generated during coke production to be recovered; as a result, no white smoke is emitted from the chimneys. The traditional practice of ‘uncontrolled emission’ of flue gases by coal and coke enterprises has been replaced by ‘controlled emission’, thereby enabling green production. ”Yin Junhu, general manager of Shanxi Xiangyuan New Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., explained. “The choice to establish operations in Qinyuan was driven, on the one hand, by the favorable business environment here, and on the other hand, by its excellent natural ecological environment, which also greatly attracted us. Located in this green haven, we must move in harmony with nature; therefore, we build green factories and plantations, ensuring that this ‘sea of green’ before us is not damaged. ” Installing fully enclosed enclosures around the coke ovens is just one of the measures taken by Shanxi Xiangyuan New Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. to achieve energy conservation, emission reduction, and sustainable development. As a key project in the city, the 1 million 100 thousand tons per year modern coal chemical project requires a total investment of 1.84 billion yuan. The first phase of this project involves the construction of a large-scale coking plant with 2×50 coke ovens, a carbonization chamber with a height of 6.05 meters, as well as a 70,000 tons per year LNG-based modern coal chemical facility. Complementary facilities include a coal preparation system, two sets of dry quenching devices, a waste heat power generation system, chemical product recovery and purification units, LNG-related infrastructure, as well as auxiliary engineering and environmental protection facilities such as flue gas desulfurization and denitrification systems. When it comes to coal coking enterprises, people generally imagine factories standing in large numbers, chimneys emitting smoke, wastewater flowing everywhere, and severe pollution; coal coking has become a synonym for \"dirtiness, disorder, and pollution\". However, the green factories that are currently “growing” and emerging will overturn people’s previous perceptions once they begin operating at full capacity. Shanxi Xiangyuan New Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. adheres to a development orientation of \"high-end, intelligent, green, and integrated\" standards, upholding the principles of \"first-class equipment, first-class environmental protection, and first-class quality.\" It promotes comprehensive innovation in technology, products, management, and systems, seeks to tap into energy-saving potential, and is committed to becoming a new model for the transformation and upgrading of the coking industry. The “four key vehicles” – coal loading cars, coke pushing cars, coke blocking cars, and coke quenching cars – utilize advanced German technology to enable intelligent production with human supervision but no manual operation. Coke ovens employ technologies such as exhaust gas circulation within the furnace, staged combustion for heating, and forced external flue gas recirculation to further reduce the initial NOx emissions and to recover the low-grade energy contained in the flue gas waste heat. An investment of 140 million yuan was made to establish a backup dry quenching system, the first of its kind in the province; this is another highlight of the 1.01 million tons per year modern coal chemical project. Compared with the most traditional coke quenching method – wet quenching – dry quenching is a significant energy-saving and environmental protection technology in the steel industry. It improves the quality of coke, prevents environmental pollution caused by wet quenching, and recovers the sensible heat of red coke, thus serving both energy-saving and environmental protection purposes. Dry quenching of coke has many advantages, but the construction and operating costs of dry quenching towers are high. The 1 million tons per year modern coal chemical project not only adopted dry quenching technology but also installed backup dry quenching units, that is, two sets of dry quenching units were built. “Generally, to control costs, coal coking enterprises will install at most two quenching systems, one dry and one wet. We, however, built two sets of dry quenching systems, which obviously resulted in doubled construction and operating costs. But in this way, even if one set of dry quenching system needs maintenance, the other set can be used, thereby preventing environmental pollution. ”When talking about the project, Yin Junhu, who was born in the 1980s, acted like an experienced coking expert. By applying advanced and mature SDS dry desulfurization and denitrification process units, pollutant emissions are continuously reduced to reach international advanced levels. Advanced treatment and reuse of industrial wastewater, full recycling of water resources, along with the use of triple-effect evaporation technology, ensure complete zero emissions. Once the project is put into operation, it will be able to produce 1.01 million tons of coke, 52,000 tons of tar, 13,000 tons of crude benzene, 12,000 tons of ammonium sulfate, and 70,000 tons of LNG per year. The annual output value is expected to reach 2.8 billion yuan, with profits and taxes amounting to around 500 million yuan. The project will also provide employment for more than 1,000 local residents.
