On July 19, the construction of the gas purification unit for the second phase of the coking project at Inner Mongolia Hengkun, carried out by Sinochem 13th Construction Company’s Tianjin branch, officially commenced. Li Xiaoming, the project safety supervisor for the owner’s side, Wang Zhe, the civil engineering engineer, Yan Fushou, the director of Taiyuan University of Technology’s supervision company, Liu Xin, the project manager from MCC Coking & Refractory Institute, Wang Minfei, the construction manager, and Rong Xiaopeng, the project leader for Tianjin branch of 13th Chemical Construction Company, attended the commencement ceremony. The project plans to construct 2 coke ovens with 65 chambers each, measuring 5.5 meters in diameter and operating on the single-heating principle. It will include facilities for wet quenching of coke, with options for dry quenching as well, along with coal preparation, coke screening, gas purification, production auxiliary facilities, and administrative and living facilities. The implementation of this project will make full use of the regional resource advantages, help to extend, supplement, and strengthen the coal industry chain, and promote the development of the coking industry in Ordos City in a scaled, intensive, and efficient manner. Inner Mongolia Hengkun Chemical Co., Ltd. is affiliated with Inner Mongolia Energy Co., Ltd., which in turn belongs to Shandong Energy, one of the world’s top 500 companies, and is part of the Xinnong Group. The project is located in the Shanghai Miao Fine Chemical Park in Ejin Horoq Front Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. It involves the construction of a coking integrated production facility with an annual capacity of 2.6 million tons. The first phase of this project has an annual capacity of 1.3 million tons of coke, along with a facility for producing liquefied natural gas from 120 million cubic meters per year of coke oven gas; the total investment for this phase was 1.5 billion yuan. The facility was completed and put into operation in 2011. The main products produced include coke, tar, crude benzene, ammonium sulfate, and liquefied natural gas. Phase 2 began construction in 2013, was put on hold in 2015, and resumed construction in November 2020. The Phase II coking project in Inner Mongolia Hengkun was contracted out in its entirety to MCC Coking & Refractory (Dalian) Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. On May 28, 2021, the general contract for the construction of the project aimed at producing 2.6 million tons of compacted coke per year as well as carrying out comprehensive utilization of this product was signed by Shandong Energy Xinwen Mining Group and Inner Mongolia Hengkun Chemical Co., Ltd. Liu Jiyuan, the director of the preparatory office of Inner Mongolia Hengkun Chemical Co., Ltd., and Ma Qingyang, the deputy general manager of MCC Coking & Refractory (Dalian) Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., signed the contract on behalf of their respective parties.
